Praveen Rao is a Government Affairs and Public Sector professional, author, and governance researcher with over 18 years of experience working at the intersection of government, public policy, and technology. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with central and state governments, public sector enterprises, urban development agencies, and senior civil servants on initiatives that strengthen institutions, improve governance, and enhance public service delivery.
His work spans government engagement, public sector transformation, stakeholder management, and the application of technology to address complex governance challenges. Having worked closely with policymakers, administrators, and industry leaders, he has developed a practical understanding of how public decisions are shaped, implemented, and translated into meaningful outcomes for citizens.
Praveen is the author of Ballots to Benefits: The Impact of Pre-Election Social Schemes in India, an analytical examination of welfare politics, fiscal sustainability, and public policy. His second book, Still They Serve: The Untold Stories of Indian Public Servants, shines a light on the dedication, resilience, and often unseen contributions of India’s civil servants, preserving stories that rarely reach the public domain.
Driven by a long-term commitment to advancing good governance, Praveen’s work increasingly focuses on governance research, evidence-based public policy, and practical frameworks that can strengthen public administration and institutional decision-making. He is currently pursuing doctoral research in Management, with a focus on solving real-world governance challenges through original research and practitioner-led insights.
He is the founder of Voice of Governance, an independent platform dedicated to documenting stories from public institutions, encouraging informed policy conversations, and promoting good governance through research, writing, and meaningful dialogue. Through this initiative, he seeks to bridge the gap between government, academia, industry, and citizens by making governance more accessible, understandable, and actionable.
An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM Calcutta), Praveen believes that meaningful change begins with informed conversations, evidence-based thinking, and institutions that place citizens at the centre of public service. His mission is to contribute to stronger governance, better public decision-making, and a more accountable and citizen-centric India.
